AI visibility for tradespeople: how customers find your business through AI
Updated on 11 October 2026
Trades are local, and the question of which business to call is often urgent: the heating stops, a pipe bursts at the weekend. Someone who asks an assistant in such a moment gets a few names. Here is what customers ask and what you can do so that your business is among them.
What customers ask
- “Which plumber in Klagenfurt offers an emergency service on Sunday?”
- “Who can replace my heating in Cologne and also advises on subsidies?”
- “Recommend an electrician in Linz for a wallbox.”
- “Which painting firm in Graz works cleanly and has good reviews?”
Three things are usually in these questions: the service, the place and a requirement (emergency service, subsidies, tidiness, reviews). Where your details on the web match one of these questions, you have better cards.
What helps trade businesses
- A page per service with the place: “Wallbox installation in Linz and surroundings” is clearer to customers and machines than a page called “Services”.
- Name the service area, with towns and districts, not just “region”.
- Make emergency service and availability obvious, with phone number and times, in the Google Business Profile and on the website.
- References with a place, if customers agree: what was done, where, over what period. A photo of the finished project helps.
- Ask for a review after every job, short and friendly, for example with a link on the delivery note or in the invoice email.
- Name memberships and certificates (guild, trade group of the Chamber of Commerce, manufacturer partnerships) on your website. Where associations list businesses, make sure your entry is complete and up to date.
Common stumbling blocks
- The website is a PDF made of images, or loads its content only through a script. Then a crawler finds little text.
- The business profile has an old address or phone number, for example after a move.
- Two spellings of the business name (“Huber Installationen” and “Installationen Huber GmbH”) in different directories.
Measure instead of guess
Whether such changes bring anything only shows if you measure before and after. To do so, ask several customer questions at several assistants, as described in How to check whether AI assistants name your business. Or run the free Nennquote scan: it shows your share at ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity and the businesses named instead of you. Nobody can promise you a placement, and neither can we.
